In Latvia, many fruit-growing companies were established around the turn of the century and have now built a stable production foundation. Although many farms achieve good harvests, the average productivity level in orchards remains insufficient. Often, productivity varies across different parts of the same orchard, and one reason for this is the unevenness of soil and terrain within a single field. To survey this and seek solutions, researchers from the LLU Department of Land Management and Geodesy, in cooperation with entrepreneurs, are proposing the use of remote sensing technology for monitoring orchards.
