Committed to the full utilisation of wood and more efficient processing of peeling residues left over after plywood production, one of Latvia's leading timber industry companies, “Stiga RM”, is investing €0.9 million in the modernisation of zero-waste technology. The company has signed contracts with world-class timber processing solution developers for the supply of a peeling residue chipper and a woodchip transport conveyor for the Kuldīga factory, which will make the process of converting wood residues into technological and energy woodchips much more efficient, safer for factory staff, and more environmentally friendly.

“Wood is a sustainable and highly valuable resource, so it is important to make meaningful use of every cubic metre, giving it maximum added value. We have found the most suitable solution to even more effectively convert those low-value wood residues that remain after the plywood production process into products in demand on the market. By investing in zero-waste production technologies and automating production and transport processes, we will ensure greater workplace safety and less burden on our employees, improve the quality of the final product, and use absolutely all wood in the creation of products, which is both sustainable and financially advantageous,” emphasises Jānis Osis, Development Director at “Stiga RM”.

Contracts for the supply of the new equipment have been signed with leading timber processing solution developers. The German company “Vecoplan AG” will provide the supply of a high-capacity and high-quality peeling residue (veneer clippings and cores) chipper. Meanwhile, woodchip transport from the production point to the storage area will be carried out using a modern, energy-efficient conveyor, replacing the tractor machinery used to date. This will reduce fossil fuel consumption, relieve the factory's internal infrastructure of additional load, and promote employee workplace safety. The transport conveyor, which has a total length of 270 metres, will be supplied by “Swedabo AB”, a representative of the Swedish company “Plåt & Spiralteknik i Torsås AB”.
