At the end of 2022, the painful questions surrounding the climate crisis remain just as painful as they have been for the entire last decade. The use of fossil fuels, the possibilities or impossibilities of renewable energy, the gigantic mountains of textile waste in third-world countries, the glitter and misery of 'fast fashion' consumption, the creation of food waste, the rising temperature of sea water, the melting of glaciers, the migration of invasive species, and even deforestation and capitalism – above all else. This is all without even counting the energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.

The TVNET editorial team invited Aigars Dudelis, a representative of Latvijas valsts meži, to discuss the state of our forests in the context of climate change. Finally, we also mentioned the forest's leading 'bad boy' – the European spruce bark beetle, which, 'thanks' to the slow dominance of warm air masses in Latvian latitudes, has settled here and cold-bloodedly 'promises' to destroy vast stands of trees.
