From bogs on the map and discussions about how to manage Latvia's peatlands to feet and hands in moss and peat – that is just how wide-ranging this year's Peat Days themes and opportunities will be.
The first Peat Days event will take place on 1 October, when Bulduru dārzkopības tehnikums hosts the seminar “Sustainable management in Latvia's peatlands”, bringing together industry experts, researchers, representatives of state institutions and entrepreneurs to discuss together the future of peatland management, recultivation and sustainability challenges.
The seminar will look at the importance of peat in Latvia's national economy, forestry and agricultural practice on peat soils, recultivation options once extraction has ended, as well as global experience in bog renaturalisation and carbon-sequestering management.
