We have observed that forest roads are often also used by local residents to get from one place to another, even when a municipal road is available. This can be explained by the fact that the roads we build are often of higher quality than those under municipal management. It is no secret that "Latvijas valsts meži" (LVM) also takes over municipal roads that are not of great social importance, but are necessary for forest management. The opposite process is also taking place - roads that are under LVM's possession, but are not required for the company's economic activities, are being handed over to municipal management.
Forest roads also play a significant role in the context of national security issues, which is why a cooperation agreement has been concluded between LVM and the National Armed Forces (NBS), which, among other things, provides for the planning of the forest road network in accordance with the NBS's vision and requirements in the context of national defence.
