From July, the ornamental plant sales yard of the Latvijas valsts meži joint-stock company's Pļaviņas nursery in Gostiņi has been closed and these products can no longer be bought there, the newspaper Staburags reports.

Māris Druvaskalns, director of the company's LVM Sēklas un stādi business unit, told the newspaper that over the next two years the company plans to withdraw from the ornamental plant trade and focus solely on growing and selling forest planting stock, which is a state commission.

In connection with this, four ornamental plant sales outlets where no plants are grown have been closed this year, including the Pļaviņas nursery in Aizkraukle municipality. Plant sales in Kalsnava will also be wound down gradually: what has already been grown will be sold, but no new plants will be raised.

The company representative acknowledged that these decisions were taken after careful evaluation, in order to direct all future activity solely towards the production of forest planting stock.
