Investing in green electricity production, plywood processing company SIA Troja has installed 593 solar panels at its production site in Riga, with a total capacity of 222 kW, thereby creating what is currently one of the largest solar panel parks in Latvia. The facility has been commissioned by the Riga City Construction Board.

The solar panels installed on the production building will generate up to 183,000 kWh of green electricity per year, which accounts for 12% of the facility's total electricity consumption. By utilising the benefits of green energy, the establishment of the solar panel park will help save 19.31 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, as well as reduce the company's long-term costs.

It is planned that the company's investment of 130,000 EUR in the project will pay for itself within 8 years. The project was implemented in cooperation with SIA PV Service and SIA EG Inženieri.

Improving processes related to the implementation of sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions has been one of the key priorities for the plywood processing company SIA Troja.

“Over the past few years, as Troja has significantly increased its production capacity and floor space, purchased a series of modern equipment and expanded its product range, the need to reduce both rising electricity costs and greenhouse gas emission volumes has grown. We have replaced our lighting with energy-efficient LED bulbs, implemented the project 'Complex solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions' in cooperation with the KPFI, and last year we introduced the ISO 50001 energy management system and installed several electric vehicle charging stations. We saw the creation of our own solar panel park, which we plan to expand in the future, as the next opportunity,” says the company’s technical director Modris Krauja.
