As part of the “Forest Days 2025” series of events, Jelgava will host the major event “The Forest Comes to Jelgava”, which will take place on 25 April on Pasta Sala and will invite those attending to take part, get involved, look around and learn. This year's motto is “Wonders of the Forest”, and the event will feature activities introducing the forest sector and the many other industries connected with the forest.
Throughout the day, from 10.00 to 18.00, visitors will be able to explore the forest sector and related industries, get to know their fields of activity and the products they make, gain valuable knowledge about forest products and the many ways they can be used, understand the importance of the forest and related industries to the development of Latvia's economy, and find out about the variety of professions employed in these sectors and the educational opportunities available.
Activities for visitors young and old have been prepared by “Stiga RM”, “Latvijas Valsts meži”, “Latvijas Finieris”, “Rīgas meži”, “Valsts meža dienests”, the Latvian National Museum of Natural History, “Mītavas čiekurs”, the Latvian Association of Cartographers and Geodesists, SIA “Latvijasmernieks.lv”, SIA “A-GEO”, SIA “GEOMATIC”, the Forest Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Latvian Beekeeping Association, the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Technology of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU LPTF), the LLKC Forest Advisory Service Centre and others. The National Armed Forces will also take part, explaining the importance of forests in national defence.
“Every year we are glad to support Forest Days, because it is an excellent opportunity for people to discover the diversity of the forest sector and its importance. One of the goals of “Stiga RM” is to care for Latvia's prosperity by managing forest areas responsibly and sustainably and by processing the timber we obtain wisely into high-quality materials. That is why we invite all friends of the forest and anyone else who is interested to come along on 25 April, enjoy the wonders of the forest and take part in the exciting activities. I am convinced that the event will be not only interesting and educational but also inspiring, fostering an understanding of the sector and encouraging the younger generation to choose forest-related professions,” says Andris Ramoliņš, owner and chairman of the board of “Stiga RM”.
This year, particular attention is being paid to the sustainable use of forest resources and to the opportunities offered by our forests and timber processors. Visitors will be able to learn about the diversity of birch and its uses in the timber industry and in landscaping, as well as take part in masterclasses where they can try their hand at making log-building components and assembling chairs.
There will also be a chance to find out about the latest surveying technologies and their use in developing geospatial products, to measure distances to objects using various geodetic methods, and to view the newest unmanned aircraft systems. Visitors will also be able to sharpen their orienteering skills.
Meanwhile, for those considering their further studies, there will be an opportunity to learn more about study and career options at the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies: at the Faculty of Forest and Environmental Sciences (MVZF), the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Technology (LPTF), the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies (IITF), the Faculty of Economics and Social Development (ESAF) and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (VMF).
Forest Days are organised by the Faculty of Forest and Environmental Sciences of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies in cooperation with Jelgava City Municipality and its institution “Kultūra”, as well as with Latvian forest and related sector organisations and companies, sectoral educational institutions, craftspeople and self-employed workers.
