Concern about gaps in the skills and knowledge of our pupils is voiced quite widely from time to time. Unfortunately, only when someone from outside Latvia has concluded as much. Why is that?
There is a political tendency to be busy, to invest, to make promises, but not to think about the results
If you have little knowledge yourself, you do not even know how or what you do not know...
A smart society is not always desirable or welcome
Many interests swirl around education. A "good result" is rarely mentioned among them
"Jānis Čakste knew the "biography" and character of every single tree, even though they numbered in the hundreds. When describing fruit varieties, the gardener would praise them in such a way that the listener's mouth would water. But as he moved on to the next variety in his story, it would turn out to be even tastier than the last, and anyone who had sampled this next variety would no longer even want to see the previous one." (About Jānis Čakste and his apple orchard)
May the coming year be more successful and vibrant for Latvia and for each of us than the last!
