On 1 March, Liepāja University will become a constituent part of Riga Technical University

With Liepāja University (LiepU) joining Riga Technical University (RTU), higher education and economic development in the Kurzeme region will be strengthened.

To strengthen higher education in the region and ensure the development of innovation and industry, Liepāja University will become a constituent part of Riga Technical University on 1 March, as provided for by the cooperation agreement signed on 29 January by the Ministry of Education and Science (IZM), Liepāja City Municipality, LiepU and RTU.

Upon joining the RTU ecosystem, LiepU will maintain its autonomy; the consolidation will allow it to become more competitive and efficient, more rapidly increase its scientific capacity, and strengthen its position and importance in the development of Kurzeme and all of Latvia.

The quadripartite cooperation agreement was signed by RTU Rector Tālis Juhna, LiepU Rector Dace Medne, IZM Department of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Director Diāna Laipniece, and Liepāja City Council Chairman Gunārs Ansiņš.
