Nordic ministers agree on international climate commitments

The Nordic countries are assuming joint responsibility for the region's work in international negotiations. At a meeting held in Oslo at the beginning of May, ministers also discussed the Glasgow Climate Pact, the joint path towards COP27, Nordic leadership in negotiations for an international agreement to combat plastic pollution, COP15, and the Nordic region's contribution to implementing the Clydebank Declaration by establishing environmentally friendly shipping routes in the Nordic region.

To express their collective efforts, ministers adopted two ministerial declarations at today's meeting: one on Nordic goals regarding the new biodiversity agreement to be negotiated this summer in Kunming, China, and another on environmentally friendly shipping, with reference to the Clydebank Declaration, which Nordic ministers signed during COP26 in November. The Clydebank Declaration was signed by 22 countries and included a commitment to establish six green shipping corridors globally.

At the meeting, Nordic ministers agreed on the establishment of green corridors for zero-emission shipping between ports in the Nordic region. Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment Espen Barth Eide emphasised: I am very pleased with the Nordic region's agreement, as our region is a pioneer in the transition to green shipping. (...)
