No ransom demanded from “Latvijas valsts meži” for data decryption

Following last week’s cyber incident affecting the IT infrastructure of AS “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM), false information has circulated in the media claiming that the perpetrator of the cyberattack demanded a ransom of more than 600,000 euros from the company for decrypting its data.

Māris Kuzmins, LVM’s Director of Information Technology and Development, stresses:

“We can confirm that whoever is responsible for the cyber incident has not contacted LVM and has not demanded a ransom in exchange for decrypting the data. Even if a ransom were demanded, the company would not pay it.

We have backup copies of all the company’s data available, and no data loss has been identified, so we are continuing to gradually restore the operation of our IT systems. At present, most of LVM’s internal information systems are fully available for work, and as of today one of the information systems will already be available to partners.”

In line with its business continuity plan, the company resumed timber product deliveries to most of its timber product buyers as early as 26 June.
