Trends in many parts of the world suggest that nature is increasingly 'entering' the urban environment – property owners are landscaping their courtyards, so-called green building facades are appearing more frequently, and plant-based solutions are also being incorporated into office building layouts and similar spaces. Residents also want to see green spaces in cities – data from a survey conducted by 'Mežpils alus' and the research centre 'Norstat' indicates that 38% of residents in Riga and 41% of those in major cities believe that the situation regarding trees and green spaces is satisfactory, but that there could be more trees.

Riga is currently a very harmonious city in many respects; however, there are still places where it is certainly worth improving the quality and quantity of green spaces and trees. It would be valuable to involve businesses, non-governmental organisations and civically active residents in the greening of the capital city.
