Mushroom Day at Līgatne Nature Trails

Līgatne Nature Trails invites everyone interested to Mushroom Day on Saturday, 2 September, from 11.00. In addition to a wonderful walk through the Līgatne Nature Trails, the event will feature an exhibition of cap mushrooms, created from specimens found in the forests surrounding Līgatne and Sigulda.

Between 11.00 and 15.00, mycologist Edgars Mūkins will provide visitors with more information about his findings. As usual, visitors are encouraged to bring along the mushrooms they have picked themselves, including those they cannot identify. The mycologist reminds us that the base of the mushroom stalk often provides information about the species, and the mushroom can be removed from the ground or twisted out without damaging the surrounding moss. However, one should not damage the mycelium of protected and rare species, as a photograph is also useful for their identification.

Mushroom Day has been held at Līgatne Nature Trails for several years. For the past two years, the event did not take place due to drought, but this year has generally been rich in rainfall, which is also conducive to mushroom growth.

The mushroom exhibition at Līgatne Nature Trails will be curated by mycologist Edgars Mūkins, who is known among mushroom enthusiasts for his portal senes.lv, which contains extensive information on cap mushrooms found in Latvia and provides a summary of current events in the mushroom world for the public.
