The ice has retreated from the coast of the Gulf of Riga and fish migration along the shore is underway, which also means that fish are more easily accessible to poachers. Last week, State Environmental Service inspectors, while surveying the coast in the Saulkrasti and Limbaži municipalities, spotted in time and removed 7 illegally placed fishing nets from the water. As the illegally placed nets were successfully found, as visual signs indicated, shortly after they were placed in the water, there were not many fish in them – 3 sea trout were released back into the water.
Meanwhile, this week, while surveying the coast, illegally placed fishing nets with a total length of 2 km were removed, and an administrative offence process has been initiated regarding the findings.
We remind you that from today, 1 March, it is forbidden to fish for any species in all water bodies using fishing nets. It is also stipulated that from 1 March to 30 April, it is prohibited to catch pike.
