An environmental conservation group hoping to "release" lynx into the Scottish Highlands has completed a year-long study to understand how local residents would react to the restoration of a lynx population.

The study was partly funded by Danish billionaires who own large estates in Scotland. It sought to clarify how farmers, landowners and local authorities would respond to a potential "lynx reintroduction pilot project".

Europe's largest wild cat "disappeared" from northern Britain more than 500 years ago, due to the loss of suitable habitat, increased hunting and a hostile attitude.
