Opportunity to sign the initiative: "Protecting the rights of landowners by preventing the uncontrolled expansion of restricted areas"
Latvia is one of the greenest countries in the world, and we have no objections to becoming even "greener". This is a common desire we all share - farmers and other rural residents, city dwellers, civil servants and entrepreneurs, as well as workers and lawmakers. Unfortunately, when the moment comes for someone to pay for this new "greenness", it usually turns out that it is the farmers, forest owners and local municipalities who must open their purses. We continue to tend the fields cultivated and forests planted by our grandfathers. We do this to support our families, and to ensure there is activity and a well-maintained environment in the countryside. However, these days we are increasingly seeing various new restrictions whose implementation costs are placed by the state squarely on the shoulders of landowners. As a result, it is no longer permitted to maintain the land or harvest its fruits. Consequently, rural and forest managers are gradually being left without their means of production and sources of livelihood; instead of earning a living through cultivation, they are forced to ask for money from the state budget. We want to change this situation by safeguarding the rights of landowners to choose how to manage their property.
