May the forests in Central Africa grow! The urgency of sustainability issues in the Congo Basin

In the publication "May the forests in Central Africa grow!", author Meindert Brouwer (Meindert Brouwer) delves into issues surrounding the Congo Basin rainforests, including opportunities for sustainable forest management. FSC holds a significant place in the protection plans for these vast forests.

The Congo Basin is home to the world's second-largest rainforest (after the Amazon Basin), the majority of which consists of contiguous areas. It must be said that in recent years, this highly diverse and varied ecosystem has been threatened by an increase in human impact and activity. Having concluded that logging in the region is proceeding too intensively, the governments of the Congo region countries have begun developing a plan to protect these forests, which are significant to the region, the continent, and the world. In the publication mentioned at the beginning of the article, the author (Meindert Brouwer) has examined potential solutions to the problem and the obstacles from various perspectives.
