Valdis is a law graduate from the Police Academy, but after becoming a forest owner himself, he turned his focus seriously to forest management. For more than 10 years now, his career has been with the company “Latvijas valsts meži”, and he currently heads the Real Estate Department.

At the end of this year, Valdis was one of the finalists in the “Sakoptākais mežs” competition and received a certificate of appreciation. His forest property is located in the Kuldīga region, where the seventh generation of the Kalns family is now managing the land. His ancestors began working the land there approximately 200 years ago.

Valdis is erudite, participates in various brain teasers, actively trained in weightlifting during his school years, becoming a Latvian youth champion, and is known to almost every supporter in Latvian football circles. Valdis also strives to instil a love of the homeland and the forest in his four children.
