The Central Statistical Bureau points out that 776,400 hectares of land were sown with grain crops last year, which is the largest grain-sown area in Latvian agricultural history. The share of winter wheat has increased significantly – from 50.7% in 2020 to 54.9% last year, which is not surprising given the consistently high grain prices on the stock exchanges.
The main export markets for Latvian grain have, as usual, been the Middle East and African countries, where grain worth a total of 498 million euros was sent. We exported the most to Nigeria (40%), Spain (9.2%), South Africa (7.2%), and Saudi Arabia (5.2%).
