The impact of pesticides on human health has not been sufficiently researched, according to Inese Mārtiņsone, a leading researcher and Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Rīga Stradiņš University. This is particularly true of the impact caused by the interaction of various pesticides. Under her leadership, a study is being conducted involving 100 rural families in Latvia. Half of them live at least 250 metres away from sprayed fields, while the other half live at least half a kilometre away from such fields. Researchers hope that the first results might be expected by the end of the year.
