The investment and forest management company Ingka Investments has completed the purchase of forest land from Sweden's largest forest owners' association, Södra. The agreement on the acquisition of more than 135,000 hectares of land in Latvia and almost 18,000 hectares in Estonia was concluded in October 2025.
Ingka Investments is the investment arm of Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retail operator, and this deal forms part of the company's long-term investment strategy of investing in assets whose value is durable over time and which can generate additional long-term value for Ingka Group and IKEA.
With the completion of the deal, Ingka Investments will become the long-term owner of this forest land, with the aim of managing the forest responsibly while safeguarding jobs and supporting the development of the local economy.
Peter van der Poel (Peter van der Poel), Managing Director of Ingka Investments, says: “We are pleased to have successfully concluded this deal with Södra. Our intention is to be a stable and reliable owner of this land and to manage the forests responsibly, so that in the long term both nature and the climate, as well as local people, benefit. Wood is a renewable resource and will therefore play an important role in the future. We are committed to ensuring the long-term availability of wood resources by practising responsible forest management and preserving the riches of the forest for future generations.”
Under the deal, Ingka Investments acquired 135,232 ha in Latvia, of which 85% — 115,000 hectares — is forest land, while in Estonia it is acquiring 17,742 ha, of which 15,800 ha (89%) is forest land. The total purchase price of the assets is 720 million euros.
In the 2025 financial year, Ingka Investments Latvia had a turnover of 11.9 million euros and employed 40 staff. Ingka Investments Estonia, meanwhile, had a turnover of 8.5 million euros and employed 12 local staff.
