The first outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in domestic pigs this year has been registered in Latvia. The disease was detected at a pig farm in Vārve parish, Ventspils municipality, at the Oši 1 762 pig holding. The Food and Veterinary Service (PVD) has initiated African swine fever control measures at the farm.
A quarantine has been established, with a protection zone within a three-kilometre radius and a surveillance zone within a ten-kilometre radius around the affected farm. In holdings located within these areas, the monitoring of pig registration and compliance with biosecurity requirements, as well as the health status of the pigs, will be intensified. Particular attention will be paid to the transport and distribution of pigs, as well as pork and pork products.
