Bug from America found in Kolka forest

Even though the ground is covered in snow, Mareks Ieviņš, a nature photographer and researcher from Kolka, has been out in nature... He encountered two surprises.

Lying on the snow on a forest path was a western conifer seed bug Leptoglossus occidentalis. Why two surprises? Because an hour and a half or two hours later, another one was lying on the snow on a different path. Both bugs were either frozen or in a deep winter slumber, perhaps having been warmed by the sun and awakened in their hiding places, flown out, and made an unsuccessful landing on the snow, where they cooled down. Or perhaps they were nipped by a harder frost and fell from the pine branches where they were overwintering.
