Even when the oaks were being transported, I thought – everything must be happening legally. However, I wondered to myself: how could the local authority have allowed such large oaks to be felled. Then spring arrived. A deputy of the Skrīveri municipal council, Jānis Brokāns, was visiting me. I asked him how the council could have permitted the felling of such large, healthy trees. The deputy replied that this was the first he had heard of it and that no decision had been made regarding permission to fell the trees.
