Researchers and students from the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University (Kaliningrad, Königsberg) have begun their first studies in a peat bog. The Kaliningrad (Königsberg) region is among those Russian areas where the Ministry of Science and Higher Education is implementing a so-called "carbon polygon" project. These polygons will be used to study greenhouse gases, test the potential for re-wetting drained areas, and explore ways to restore the flora and fauna that have abandoned these sites.
