Thanks to the interest of hunters, the editorial office of the magazine "Medības" was one of the first to receive news that a jackal (Canis aureus) had been shot near Lake Liepāja, not far from Otaņķi. The events took place on a private landholding whose owners run a small poultry farm. “Foxes and various other small predators visit us quite regularly. To divert the flow of visitors and concentrate them in one place, we set up a feeding station. We put dead birds and slaughter waste in one place, outside the territory. The farm is fenced, but predators, especially foxes, are very adept at digging under the fence to get to the chickens. That is why we decided to set up a feeding station,” the owner explained.
