Archaeologists in Norway have discovered the remains of a cluster of so-called Scandinavian longhouses, including one of the largest structures of this type ever found. While surveying agricultural land in Gjellestad, southern Norway, approximately 85 kilometres south-east of Oslo, the underground remains of at least five longhouses were uncovered. The buildings were located approximately 1,640 feet (500 metres) north-east of a Viking ship burial, which was discovered in 2018 using a scanning method, according to a statement from the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (NIKU).
