The Ministry of Transport, referring to the European Union (EU) publication "Motorways 2018", which mentions studies in several countries indicating that road traffic accidents on motorways are 50% to 90% lower compared to two-lane public roads. VSIA "Latvijas Valsts ceļi" (LVC) predicts a total reduction in road traffic accidents on these sections by 50%, which equates to 347 accidents, including 111 accidents with casualties, 168 accidents with injuries and 13 accidents with fatalities per year.
