In Latvia, houses are also being built from hemp

Hemp butter and oil are nothing unusual, but as a building material? In fact, hemp has long been used as a building material in homes, manor houses and even castles. Combined with lime, these are natural, long-lasting, and environmentally and human-friendly materials, the use of which has dwindled over time; however, there are companies in Latvia that have revived this construction niche.

“We build houses from hempcrete – the ingredients are hemp shives, hydrated lime, mineral additives and water. We have already gained quite a lot of experience, building not only in Latvia but also in Scandinavia, Austria, France, Switzerland and elsewhere,” says Uģis Pauriņš, Chairman of the Board of "Hemp Eco Systems" Latvia, describing the company he founded eight years ago.
