Last month, five significantly large notable trees - a common oak (Quercus robur) with a trunk circumference of 4.15 metres, a silver maple (Acer sacharinum) with a trunk circumference of 4.60 metres, and three Scots pines (Pinus sylvestris) with trunk circumferences of 3.05 metres, 3.10 metres and 3.58 metres - were measured in the Šķaune parish of Dagda municipality and the Pasiene parish of Zilupe municipality. Three potential notable trees were also measured in the same area: Scots pines with trunk circumferences of 2.44 metres, 2.34 metres and 2.40 metres. "Oak leaf" identification markers have been attached to the newly discovered notable trees, and they have been registered in the "Ozols" nature data management system.
