French lawmakers, in an effort to reduce carbon emissions, have decided to ban domestic flights over relatively short distances where train alternatives exist. The parliamentary vote is planned for legislative changes that would see the closure of those air routes where the distance can be covered by train in no more than one and a half to two hours. The legislative changes will not affect connecting flights.

As is known, the Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected air travel; information on the website Flightradar24 shows that in 2020, the number of flights fell by 42% compared to 2019.
