Valuable ore deposits have been discovered in Scandinavia that could significantly reduce the projected phosphorus shortage for the coming decades. The massive phosphate deposits discovered in south-west Norway could be large enough to supply electric vehicle, solar panel and fertiliser manufacturers for at least the next 50 years.
The ore was first discovered in 2018 by representatives of the company Norge Mining , who only revealed this May that they had found 70 billion tonnes of the valuable material. Phosphate contains a high level of phosphorus, which is a key component of many green technologies and fertilisers. This discovery has come at a critical time, as Europe faces raw material supply issues.
