Forests, firewood, bioenergy... How will we keep warm now and in the near future? In the programme Kā labāk dzīvot, we discuss energy independence for residents and the transition of boiler houses from gas heating to biomass or wood chips, as well as the hype surrounding wood pellets and why buying later might be more advantageous for consumers this time.

In the studio are the representative of the joint-stock company “Latvijas Valsts meži” Jānis Tomass Kotovičs, the Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Biomass Association “LATbio” Didzis Palejs, and the Executive Director of the Latvian Independent Timber Producers Association Artūrs Bukonts.

At the moment, it is very difficult to predict the next heating season, but it is important for every household to have at least small reserves of fuel, notes Jānis Tomass Kotovičs: “Speaking of firewood, my grandfather taught a kind of Latvian wisdom that we may have forgotten a little today, namely, that a proper rural house should have at least a three-year supply of firewood. If you have such a reserve, then you can look forward to the winter without any worries at all.”
