Guyana and Norway discuss carbon strategy

The government of Guyana has begun discussions with its Norwegian counterparts regarding the second phase of the Low Carbon Development Strategy, which would assist domestic communities whose well-being is directly dependent on forests and forest-based employment.

Back in 2009, Guyana and Norway signed a REDD+ investment fund (GRIF) agreement worth 250 million US dollars. The purpose of the agreement was to ensure the conservation of Guyana's forests, sustainable logging (forestry) in state forests, and to maintain both decarbonisation and carbon sequestration levels.
