21 March is celebrated worldwide as the International Day of Forests, which this year invites us to reconnect with the forest and go for walks, improving our knowledge, exploring and learning about the forest, and its significance in Latvia and the world.

For many, particularly in the current situation where usual leisure and entertainment options have been restricted for some time, the forest has become a place to spend free time safely and healthily, engaging in both physical activities and calm walks, drawing strength and energy from nature. AS “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM) invites everyone to set off on a healthy adventure across the 1.6 million hectares of state forest territory, where one can walk along forest trails of varying lengths and enjoy some downtime. Some of the tourism sites popular with visitors continue to operate even during the state of emergency, but there are also more than 300 well-maintained free-to-use tourism spots across Latvia available to everyone.
