A new law prohibiting the use of plastic for packaging fruit and vegetables came into force in France on the first day of the New Year. For example, cucumbers, lemons and oranges will no longer be allowed to be wrapped or otherwise packaged in plastic material. In total, the law specifies 30 types of fruit and vegetables that will be subject to the new rules. It will not (at least for the time being) affect large packs or, for example, chopped, grated or otherwise processed fruit and vegetables.

In France, more than 1/3 of fruit and vegetables are sold wrapped in some form of plastic material. Government representatives truly believe and hope that the ban will help to rapidly reduce the use of the materials concerned.
