The fishing industry, particularly commercial fishing, has a long history and deep-rooted traditions in Latvia, shaped by both access to the Baltic Sea and the richness of its inland waters. Pond farming remains the primary form of aquaculture enterprise in Latvia today. However, the development of aquaculture is progressing more slowly than might be expected given the EU structural fund and investment funding poured into the sector, Gints Lazdiņš, Chairman of the Board of AS “Nagļi”, emphasises to Neatkarīgā. Yet, his comments do not mean that fishermen and fish farmers are whining or complaining. They do not whine, but at the same time, they stand up for their interests. They fall, they get back up, and they work incredibly hard! Fishermen are tough and have always said: there is no such thing as bad weather. There is only unsuitable clothing. They are not afraid of hard work.
