The Finnish state railway company VR has announced the dismissal of its CEO. A representative for the VR Group board did not wish to disclose the reason for the dismissal, noting only that it was not related to any illegal activity and that both parties had agreed not to reveal the reasons for the departure. The board representative also denied that the dismissal was linked to the railway company's decisions regarding the suspension of freight transport to Russia. As is known, in March, VR announced that freight transport between Russia and Finland was being halted. A few days later, the company reversed this decision, stating that it had received clarification that the sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom against Russian Railways (RZD), which had formed the basis for the decision to suspend freight, did not apply to services in Finland. VR made the decisions to suspend train traffic between Finland and Russia without consulting its owner, the Finnish state.
