In the spring of this year, the associations "Zemnieku saeima", "Lauksaimnieku apvienība", "Lauksaimniecības statūtsabiedrību asociācija", the Latvian Forest Owners Association, the Latvian Association of Agricultural Cooperatives, the Latvian Young Farmers Club, and the Cooperation Council of Agricultural Organisations sent an open letter to the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development and Chairman of the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund Council, Artūrs Toms Plešs, calling on the minister to publicly apologise for a state-funded advertisement in which farmers were labelled as "mass murderers", and to amend the rules for allocating fund financing so that the information provided is scientifically grounded.

We highlighted the problems with the one-sided "public education" funded by the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund to the previous Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Juris Pūce. However, even then, letters addressed to the Environmental Protection Fund Council, which detailed lies and half-truths, were ignored. Following a meeting with the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development on 9 June, a solution to the conflict was also not found; therefore, farmers and foresters are not backing down from their demands and continue to prepare for protests. To clarify the situation that has arisen, "Rīgas Apriņķa Avīze" contacted Inese Karlova, the manager and owner of the Sēja municipality farm "Veģi".
