The Australian Minister for Agriculture believes that the changes will prevent a decline in land productivity. However, this does not satisfy those concerned about a potential reduction in income. Conversely, proponents of human-induced forest regeneration plans believe that the natural environmental restoration process will certainly help in the fight against drought and other problems caused by climate change.
The veto proposed by the federal government, objecting to the restoration of certain types of native forest, has 'met' with a mixed reaction from farmers and the industry, who are concerned about reduced opportunities to diversify income in changing climate conditions. The Emissions Reduction Fund veto would apply to two types of regeneration plans - human induced regeneration (human induced regeneration (HIR)) and native forest managed regrowth (native forest managed regrowth (NFMR)) - that would take place (or be planned) on areas larger than 15 ha or >1/3 of the property area.
