The PVD has recently encountered several cases where unauthorised private individuals have stolen animals from their owners or persuaded them to hand them over voluntarily, claiming they have some kind of right to do so. However, this is not true! Kristīne Lamberga, Director of the Veterinary Supervision Department, explains that the institution of a public inspector does not exist at all within the Latvian legal system, and what the "Animal Police" are doing by mobilising animal rights activists to walk onto private properties is complete arbitrariness and illegal. The service will also issue a public explanation in the near future.
