Following registration with the Verra Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) at the start of this year, eAgronom, a sustainable agriculture technology company that helps farmers adopt sustainable farming practices, has successfully sold 29,000 Verra-certified soil carbon credits. The deal has resulted in the first major payouts to farmers taking part in the eAgronom Carbon Programme, totalling 1.46 million euros. These credits represent verified CO₂ removal and emissions reductions achieved by farmers adopting regenerative farming practices that meet one of the strictest standards in the world, giving buyers confidence in their quality and reliability.
Revenue from the deal will be split among 150 farmers in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland who have introduced regenerative farming methods across 28,000 hectares of agricultural land. The deal shows how regenerative agriculture can create new income streams for farmers while helping companies meet their climate goals. The climate benefit generated is equivalent to taking around 6,300 petrol-powered cars off the road for a year.
The deal was carried out in partnership with leading carbon project developer and climate consultancy South Pole, which helped ensure the project's compliance with the Verra VM0042 methodology and supported the sale of the certified credits. The eAgronom project attracted buyers from the public sector, utilities, telecommunications and consumer goods industries, reflecting growing corporate interest in high-quality, verified climate solutions with measurable climate impact, while also supporting the farming community.
"This is just the visible tip of the iceberg. We expect to reach 1 million credits in 2026 and 2027, and around 4 million credits in 2028. Each credit represents CO₂ that has been removed from the atmosphere and stored in fertile soils, thanks to the additional regenerative farming practices farmers are adopting," says Robin Saluoks, CEO and co-founder of eAgronom.
The project is registered under the Verra VM0042 methodology, one of the strictest standards in agricultural land management. It allows farmers to generate carbon credits by cutting emissions and increasing carbon sequestration in the soil through improved, more sustainable farming practices.
