With the aim of raising public understanding of the importance of forests and their sustainable management, “Forest Days” will be marked across Latvia in 2025 – a series of events inviting people to discover the diversity of the forest, take part in hands-on activities and learn about nature. This year's “Forest Days” will run under the motto “Understand, take part, protect!”, encouraging the public to get involved in protecting and restoring forests.
The main “Forest Days” events in 2025:
- 25 April | 10.00 – 18.00 | “The Forest Comes to Jelgava”, Pasta sala, Jelgava
A large public event with nature discovery workshops, activities for children, meetings with forestry specialists and interactive exhibits. More information here. - 26 April | 11.00 – 15.00 | “Forest Days 2025”, Ogres Zilie kalni
Adventure and educational activities outdoors – hikes, tree identification games and educational activities for the whole family. More information here. - 9-10 May | “Forest ABC”, Padure parish, Kuldīga municipality, “Struņķkrogs”
The traditional educational event for schoolchildren and families, with more than 60 “forest stops” introducing the importance of the forest and people's role in preserving it. More information here. - 23-24 May | Forest discovery festival "Latvian Forest Days", LVM nature park in Tērvete
Interactive sessions, including forest regeneration, during which more than 10 000 trees are to be planted, as well as the chance to learn the basics of forest tending in practice. More information here. - 4 September | 10.00 – 16.00 | “Green Classroom”, Sarkaņkalns, Rēzekne municipality

An educational hike for schoolchildren and young people together with nature experts and foresters.
In addition to the events listed above, the State Forest Service (VMD), working with educational institutions and local authorities across Latvia, will organise educational activities in which schoolchildren and families can take part in forest-themed games and quizzes and get a first-hand look at a forester's everyday work. The Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments, meanwhile, will hold regional clean-up events and tree-planting activities throughout the season, encouraging people to get involved in caring for the environment and in the sustainable management of forests.
