Are well-known fashion brands linked to deforestation in the Amazon basin?

More than 100 world-famous fashion brands may be linked* in various ways to the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. This conclusion has been reached despite the fact that none of these well-known companies intentionally chose to source raw materials resulting from such activities.

A number of brands, such as H&M, Nike, Ralph Lauren, Adidas, Zara, work with manufacturers who source raw materials through untraceable supply chains, including from companies that have a known connection to cattle farming in recently deforested areas of the Amazon basin.

Information indicates that claims from representatives of the fashion industry that they "do not use materials from hides sourced in deforested areas" are not convincing.
