In the western United States, on a slope of the Wasatch Mountains by a lake fed by springs, "lives" a giant organism that sustains a local ecosystem where indigenous plants and animals have thrived for thousands of years. This organism has been given the Latin name "Pando" (I spread). What are we talking about? About ~47,000 genetically identical aspen trunks, connected by a shared root network and covering about 106 acres (42.8967 ha).
