The housing market is simply pushing families with children out of the big cities, as they cannot afford to purchase more living space. In Denmark, it is standard for every child to have their own room. However, this is not the only reason why residents are beginning to see remote areas as an attractive alternative to city life.

The Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies explains that the move from city to countryside has been encouraged by the coronavirus crisis and the opportunity to work from home – residents can be located 100 kilometres or more from their workplace and continue to work effectively.
