Over the course of a few centuries, the three Baltic states have experienced periods under Russian and Soviet, Swedish, and even Ottoman rule. At present, there is global concern that they could be next on V. Putin's list following the invasion of Ukraine, yet, within the Baltic states themselves, there is an intuitive sense that they are safer than ever before.
