With the driving of piles and the construction of foundations, building work has commenced on the new laboratory for the LLU Faculty of Forest Engineering's Wood Processing Department, located next to the Forest and Wood Products Research and Development Institute (MeKA) on Dobeles Street. This will be a unique industrial building constructed entirely from wood, with all timber components manufactured in Zemgale and local resources utilised in the building process. "The use of renewable resources, such as wood, is becoming increasingly relevant in construction, and therefore a modern laboratory is essential where we can conduct interdisciplinary research to verify the effectiveness of the 'Green Deal' in construction," acknowledges MeKA director Andrejs Domkins.
