The European Union (EU) Natura2000 network of protected areas could be further connected with other "green infrastructure" to create a unified European "nature network". According to a report by the European Environment Agency (EEA) published today (2 July 2020), motorways and other infrastructure projects currently isolate approximately 15% of Natura2000 areas from other natural territories, thereby reducing ecosystem service capacity and potential.
